Welcome to If It Makes Noise. My name is Ralph Isaacson, thank you for checking out my site. I Repair, Restore, De-Modify, Modify all makes and models of vintage and modern tube amplifiers. I also repair solid-state amplifiers and keyboards but my true love is tube gear. This is the future home of Noise Amplification. I am currently developing a simple point to point all tube low watt high gain small footprint alternative to the monster tube amps of yesterday and the tone sucking do everything modern amps. I am always adding new pictures of my work in my Portfolio. If you would like to learn a little more about me personally check out my essay About Me. Check out the pictures below for my most recent projects.
This is the third prototype of my design for a small footprint class A cathode biased high gain guitar amplifier. The black powder coated chassis measures 10 In. W x 6 In. D x 2 In. H. Mercury Magnetics power, choke, and output transformers. Pictured tube line up is V1 Groove Tubes 12AX7M, V2 Groove Tubes 5751M, and V3 Groove Tubes E34Ls. The design allows the user to choose between several different 8 pin pentode power tubes (EL34, 6CA7, 6L6, 5881, KT66) and any combination of 9 pin miniature dual triode type preamp tubes. (12AX7, ECC83, ECC81, 12AT7, 12AU7, 7025, 5751) Real point to point hand built design, no tag boards or PCB's. Front panel from left to right StandBy, Pilot Light, Option Switch, Master Volume, Bass, Mid Range, Treble, Gain, and Input Jack.
This is my second prototype. The StepChild is a 10 Watt design featuring Mercury Magnetic's Axiom power and output transformers. Easy to maintain three Tube Class A cathode biased design with one Groove Tubes KT88sv and two GT12AX7M. This amp is designed specifically to run the KT88 but can run other power tubes of similar power capabilities. Any combination of 9 pin miniature dual triode type preamp tubes can be used. (12AX7, ECC83, ECC81, 12AT7, 12AU7, 7025, 5751)
ProtoType One was a proof of concept that ended up sounding far better than expected. The power tube is a Groove Tubes KT66HP (now extinct) with two GT 12AX7M preamp tubes. It sounds amazing. Hammond power and output transformers. I built the cab out of some white pine I had lying around complete with dove tailed corners.
I Have Hands ON Experience with many different makes and models of tube and solid-state gear including but not limited too... Fender, Marshall, Peavey, Korg, Roland, Ampeg, Crate, Kustom, Ash Down, Orange, Moog, Alesis, Top Hat, Laney, Lee Jackson, Acoustic, Rhodes, Soldono, SWR, Sunn, RCA, Yamaha, Kurzwiel, Mackie, Ensoniq / E-Mu, Sound City, Hiwatt, Mesa/Boogie, Gibson, Vox, Eden, Kustom, Line 6, Groove Tubes, Silvertone, Randall, Trace Elliot, Carvin.
